About Us

Out of the Stack is a hybrid independent book publisher that focuses on getting the best version of your book to market. Our mission is to guide and assist you through the publishing and promotion process. We do not take a penny of your royalties. Out of the Stack's, services are affordable and designed to help independent authors like you find readers in their genre and obtain the highest possible Amazon sales ranking.

The term hybrid is a relatively new concept in book publishing. It is a unique and innovative way to get your book out to market. There are incredibly varied business models, methods of working with writers, and approaches to marketing and distribution. BEWARE: not all are interested in your success.

This can be a confusing term to discuss because you will hear different definitions and descriptions of hybrid publishing depending on whom you ask. The term has become popular among companies that wish to put a new look on an age-old activity: charging writers to get published. In our model, YOU are the publisher. That is what makes Out of the Stack different.

Russ Scalzo

Russ Scalzo (russscalzo.com)

Founder, Lead Strategist

A singer/songwriter, full-time author, and a frequent lecturer in Biblical Prophecy, Russ brings a lifetime of technical expertise to a story he believes may very well be the substance of tomorrow's headlines. His first novel On the Edge of Time began in 1994 as a 50-page short story named for the newspaper the protagonist writes for, "Chronicles of the End Times." Russ partnered with author and good friend Steve Mamchak in 1995 and ultimately split the completed novel On the Edge of Time into two captivating parts that Russ feels are both Biblically accurate as well as dramatically powerful, hitting at the essence of our lives now, and during the time that may soon be upon us.

Russ's new series, Hidden Thrones, features Jack Bennett, a consultant for the FBI's new paranormal division. Jack has an unusual gift that pits him against powerful dark forces that threaten to take over planet Earth. In this series, the author reveals the link between spiritual warfare and paranormal activity.

In the 1960s and 70s, Russ was the frontman for The Hallmarks, a band popular along the Jersey Shore. At age 17 he wrote Soul Shakin' Psychedelic Sally and signed a record contract with Mercury Records. The song was debuted on Dick Clark's American Bandstand on October 7, 1967. Nearly 50 years later, the Hallmarks' lost songs were found and the album Paper Sky was released August 17, 2018, on the Numero Group label. After a life-changing experience with Jesus Christ, Russ went from performing in bars and clubs to ministering in churches and touring the U.S. and Canada with his band, Saved By Grace. He has written too many songs to count, including music for six original musicals. He is the co-founder and president of Lighthouse Stage Productions, a non-profit Christian theater company based in New Jersey. Russ serves as an elder in his church and currently resides on the Jersey Shore with his wife of 50 years. He has three beautiful daughters and is a grandfather of five.
